We opened for business in December of 1971 to sell custom and ready-made picture framing. We are now the oldest framers, still doing business at their original location, in Greensboro. In the beginning, we were eight people (long haired hippies in those days) having traveled to Greensboro from Atlanta, GA to start our own enterprise in the world of retail. We had met at various framing businesses in Atlanta and had decided that we needed to be working for ourselves instead of others. An original member led us to consider Greensboro and it turned out to be an ideal location for a new entrepreneurial adventure. Although there were a few major bumps in the road, we found the perfect location on West Market St and renovated the old house at 4511 in a matter of weeks. We were most fortunate to have moved to a city which was ready and waiting for our particular brand of fast and affordable framing. In those days, all worked at tables where the customers could actually see their project being accomplished. This open floor plan allowed people to see and appreciate the skill that goes into a properly finished frame job.
The idea worked and we became a successful operation. As time went on, we constantly expanded our scope and abilities to include as much of the total framing experience as possible. From a shop with a limited number of selections, but an incredibly fast turn around, (including on the spot framing) we have, over the years, morphed into a full service frame shop offering most every kind of framing and mounting available on the market.
The old house has been renovated and restored and rebuilt in whole and in part many times, both for additional strength and for additional room. It has served it's purpose, both original and extended very well. Where once there stood a barn red with yellow trim landmark, there now is a warm grey and white with green roof icon, one of only a few original structures left on West Market Street . If you have not been to our shop, we invite you to come in and experience our service. Estimates and advice are free. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
