Our primary service is custom picture framing. To this end we have developed our talents to provide the customer with the expertise and taste that only a top flight framer can offer. We have more than 2000 picture frame mouldings on display in our gallery. Many thousands more are available in our manufacturers catalogues. We offer matboards in virtually unlimited number and selection, but with one caveat; we use only archival quality boards. This means that your picture will never be damaged by acid leaking from the board to the picture. We have available many kinds of glazing; from regular picture frame glass, to Museum glass which has both an ultra-violet filter applied and also an anti reflective coating to make viewing much more enjoyable.
We mount pictures in many different ways according to what should and should not be done. For instance; when an original watercolor comes to us it is matted and backed in archival quality acid free board and attached with acid free tape as well. Conservation glass with UV filter is strongly recommended in the case of originals and also limited edition reproductions. Posters, on the other hand, are most often mounted permanently to quality acid free foam core board using a vacuum press that can apply more than twenty pounds of pressure per square inch, thus ensuring no air bubbles for the life of the poster.
We are, since the early days, experts in the mounting of all kinds of needle art, including cross-stitch, needlepoint, cruel embroidery and even rugs. We also mount silk scarves, Indian painting on silk, tapestries and oil paintings on canvas. If you are in doubt as to what should be done with a particular piece or what perhaps shouldn't, please feel free to call or come in. The advice won't cost a penny.
Not all things to be framed come on paper or canvas. We have developed a real affinity for shadow boxes which are made using a very deep moulding with the object sewn to a background of Suede or Linen and then mounted in a box with the sides usually made from the same material to provide a very finished appearance. The things which can be so framed are too numerous to catalogue but a few are Christening gowns, fishing lures, military medals, autographed sports jerseys, antique tools or weapons, toy collections, Christmas ornaments, folding fans, lace gloves, and a variety of personal objects and obsessions. We will be glad to work with you to achieve a harmonious and balanced composition that tells the story you want to see.
One service that has proven to be quite popular is that of the Canvas Transfer. This process is the removal of a print from the paper on which it is reproduced and adhering it to an artists canvas and then coating it and perhaps brush stroking it to achieve something approaching the look of the original. This not only protects the print behind the coating but makes glass unnecessary and the effect is much more like that of a gallery experience.
We also offer restoration services. They include, cleaning and reconditioning of oil paintings as well as repair of rips and tears in the canvas. We can restore broken or missing ornamentation on antique frames. Art on paper may need fumigation or attention to stains and small tears. Such work demands patience, experience, judgment, a practiced hand and a knowing eye.
